Tesco, the UK’s largest grocer, has partnered with Marketplacer to launch a new online marketplace powered by Marketplacer’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform. The partnership is designed to expand Tesco’s online offerings by integrating third-party products that complement its existing range, providing customers with a one-stop shop for all their needs. The initiative began in June and will continue to evolve over time, with more third-party sellers being added gradually. This will enable Tesco to offer an even broader array of products to its customers.
Peter Filcek, Marketplace Director at Tesco, highlighted that the decision to launch the marketplace was driven by customer demand. He noted that Tesco customers were frequently searching for products that the company did not sell, prompting the need for a platform that could offer a wider selection. According to Filcek, the marketplace model will allow Tesco to take a more comprehensive approach to household needs and enhance the customer experience. It will also give Tesco a competitive edge in the grocery sector by meeting the growing demand for variety and convenience.
The collaboration with Marketplacer also enables Tesco to streamline the onboarding process for third-party sellers. By utilizing Marketplacer’s scalable and secure platform, Tesco aims to attract more sellers and integrate their products more efficiently. Filcek added that Marketplacer’s expertise in e-commerce and understanding of Tesco’s business helped navigate some of the common scaling challenges faced by companies undergoing such expansions.
Jason Wyatt, CEO and Co-Founder of Marketplacer, emphasized that the partnership is designed to meet both Tesco’s business objectives and brand goals. He noted that the platform is user-friendly, scalable, and capable of future growth, enabling Tesco to continually improve the customer browsing and buying experience. Additionally, Wyatt mentioned that a key focus of the partnership is to help third-party sellers integrate smoothly with Tesco’s platform, making it easier and faster to add products.
Overall, the partnership between Tesco and Marketplacer represents a significant step forward for the grocery giant, offering enhanced shopping experiences for customers, better business opportunities for third-party sellers, and long-term growth potential for Tesco’s online marketplace.
